When Roost Hosting makes more sense.
Four specific situations where switching is a clear win. If none of these fit you, DigitalOcean is fine.
You want to see your credit math, not guess.
The hourly billing model is the same. The difference is we show available and reserved separately on every page. You always know what you can spend and what's locked.
You also run cPanel sites.
If your agency or studio runs both VPS-hosted apps and classic cPanel sites for clients, one panel beats two vendors and two invoices.
You want domains in the same place.
Domain renewals don't have to live in a different tab. WHOIS privacy free, nameservers in-panel, no upsells.
You'd like an AI that knows your servers.
Bring your own Anthropic key (or use ours). Read logs, debug deploys, walk through SSL — in any language, read-only by default.
When DigitalOcean is still the right call.
We're a small team and we're new. Here's where they have an honest advantage today.
You need many global regions.
DigitalOcean has 15+. We have 4 (with 4 more on the roadmap). If you're load-balancing across Mumbai, São Paulo, and Toronto today, we'd struggle.
You need managed Kubernetes.
DOKS is a serious product. We don't offer managed K8s yet — you'd run k3s on a VPS, which is fine for many use cases but not all.
You're tied to their App Platform / Functions.
If you're building on DO's PaaS layer, we don't have an equivalent. We're a clean VPS + cPanel + domains shop, not a PaaS.
You need enterprise procurement.
SOC 2 audits, signed BAAs, a salesperson on speed-dial — they have a team. We're earning that step by step.

Top up $5 + spin up a matching VPS
Pick the equivalent tier in your nearest Roost Hosting region. Note the public IP.
Sync your data
rsync -avz --progress your-droplet:/var/www /var/www/ from the new server. Or restore from a snapshot you exported.
Switch DNS
Update A records to the new IP. TTL of 60s an hour before, 3600s after. Both servers serve traffic during propagation.
Tear down the old server
When traffic stops hitting the old IP for 24 hours, terminate the droplet. Done.
Frequently asked questions.
Will my Linux scripts/playbooks work on Roost Hosting?
Yes. Both run KVM virtualization with standard Ubuntu / Debian / AlmaLinux images. cloud-init is supported. Ansible, Terraform, Pulumi work the same way.
Do you have an API?
Yes, REST + Terraform provider, both in beta. Endpoint coverage matches the panel: create / resize / destroy / snapshot / reboot, plus billing read access. Webhooks shipping Q3 2026.
What about Spaces (object storage)?
Our object storage is S3-compatible at $0.02/GB/month, no egress fees. Comparable use cases work. For S3-API parity edge cases — file us a ticket and we'll be straight about coverage.
Is my data sovereignty preserved?
Yes. You pick the region, your data stays there. EU customers can pin to Frankfurt with EU-only support handling.
Can I bring my IPs (BYOIP)?
Not yet. Roadmapped for late 2026.
